The Robodyssey Software Training System

The Robodyssey Software Training System is a unique educational tool in the ongoing challenge of maintaining an engaging classroom. The system uses a stimulating combination of class challenges, robot mechanics, and entertaining guided tutorials to excite children and young adults to the endless possibilities of computer science and robotics. The Robodyssey Software Training System is designed for a one or two week after school or vacation camp programs. Students will learn programming skills based around Microsoft'sTM Visual BasicTM language while competing in non-destructive class challenges.
A one week, two hour per day program consists of all these experiences.


Activities:

  • Robot Assembly - An introduction to robot mechanics and motion.
  • Software Operation - Learn the basics of a compiler and its operation.
  • Motion Control - Use Loops to control motion.
  • Complex Motion - Learn all about subroutines.
  • Analog to Digital - Learn how to convert analog data to digital.
  • Obstacle Avoidance - Use real world data to make computer decisions.
  • Fear of Heights - Teach your robot how to protect itself.
  • Turret Construction - Give your robot eyes that move.



  • Non-Destructive Robot Competitions:

    Blind Bot's Bluff - A maze challenge where students have to program their robot to navigate a minefield of robot swallowing holes.
    Desktop Challenge I - A robot needs to explore a desktop while avoiding the objects scattered around. Beware, one wrong turn and you fall to your doom!
    Desktop Challenge II - Same tough challenge as above but with the added fun of having eyes that can look around.
    Last Bot Standing - Climax of the week with robots struggling to be the last one remaining on platform a sensor smashing height above the ground.
