BasicX and Hacking ToysProgram Features:This is the perfect program for kids who are looking to be able to create their own robot. We will start with an introduction to BasicX programming and quickly move into motor control. Within the first couple of days we will we be doing bench top activities on data collection, serial communication, output pin control, timing routines, and motor control using pulse width modulation. For the next couple of days we will taking apart old toy cars and gizmos and tying into thier drive mechanisms with our own electronic controls and sensors. The last day will be a series of events to compare our creations. An old RC car may be fast, but can it "turn on a dime?" How about and old toy tank? Do you think it would stand the best chance of pushing the other robots off a table? The competitions are as endless as the creations!Activities:
Requirements:This class will require typing skills and basic computer understanding. We may at times need to use a soldering iron and other hand tools with the potential of causing some physical harm. Basic skills and responsibilies are a must. As a general rule, children should be 12 or older. Feel free to contact us to discuss your childs abilites. Rates: Total $420
